Op Shopping and a blue and white bunny

A couple of weeks ago I got this cute beret (top pic) at the markets, and that night I was looking through my Olle Eksell book and found an illustration he'd done of the exact same hat.

It was also lovely to pop over to Debbie Hill's blog and see that she had made a bunnie from the pattern I posted a while back. I like hers better! (image below)

I scanned the Olle Eksell image from his book, and got the bunny pic off Debbie Hill's blog, which is otherwise known as Kept in a Jar. xxxx

Type Tuesday: Pelican - A book of Scripts

I found this book in the 2nd hand book shop the other day and it's full of really old, really decorative scripts. It was first published in 1949, but some of the examples date back to 8th century. Like most good books you can still get a 2nd hand copy from Amazon here. xxxx

This is......my best op shop find (for the week)

Just found a place close to home that does really good fabric off-cuts, like the above bits of silk organza. So now I'm off to Tessuti to find some other bits of fabric to bind them all together. Also thanks to Three Buttons for setting up the this is ....... game. xxxx

Snazzy Vest

Our friend Amanda got this cute, faux-fur vest for Lukas at the Op Shop. I haven't seen it yet, but she popped it on her scanner and emailed it to us, with an email title saying 'Snazzy Vest'. I love it! I keep reading blogs from the other side of the world that are showing lovely spring time images. We're going into winter here. The best thing about that is the clothes I guess! xxxx

Tea cosy, Pantone mugs and a cute diagram

I had to do a cute diagram for work yesterday, and I found a tea cosy at the charity shop up the road. I like it with next to my Pantone mugs. xxxx

Art Nouveau Post-Cards

This morning I popped into Gertrude and Alice, a second hand bookshop, and got a cute book called 'Art Nouveau Post-Cards' that was published in 1977, (by Images Graphiques, New York). These scanned images prompted me to buy the book. They're by Raphael Kirchner (1876 - 1917), a prolific designer and artist of the period. It's suspected that much of the work thought to be done by him was actually done (or at least assisted) by his wife, who was also his model. You can find out more about him, and see some of his paintings here. xxxx

Op Shopping online

Aesthetic Outburst is one of my favourite blogs that I read, and How Now Design is the Etsy shop attatched it. She sells her own designs there, as well as really great vintage stuff. That's where I purchased this cute tambourine. I got it in the post yesterday afternoon. It's so cute! xxxx

Op Shopping

Here's a dress I saw in the window of an Op shop and didn't get, but kind of wish I did. I love the lace up boots on the girls. Click the image to see the detail. xxxx

David Met Nicole

Two posts down I mention the beautiful shop David Met Nicole. It's where I got those cute 50's cars and trucks. Here's a couple of pictures of other stuff you can get at the store. There's a funny mix of really cheap and expensive stuff. The cars are $4.50, the watch faces are less than $10 and there's a sale bin with cute things for as low as a dollar. Perfect for work Xmas presents. All the images are from their website. For Sydney readers, it's on Cleveland Street Redfern. xxxx

Op Shopping and a hand knitted Teletubby

How hilarious is this? The Russian ladies from the Op shop up the road gave us the real teletubby on the left, then the other day at a kindergarten garage sale I got this crazy hand knitted telly tubby (above right). When you look at them side by side the likeness is quite dreadful - but I love the fact someone made the effort! xxxx

Op Shopping, a Cacharel bag & Carrie Bradshaw

The other day I got another cute item at a garage sale - a Cacharel bag and wallet for the cheap price of $30 (that's 17.83 EUR or 23.95 USD). They're hot pink, as you can see above, which is not normally my thing, but I've decided to embrace it in a Carrie Bradshaw kind of way. I drew this terrible picci of her to wrap my head around the concept. Speaking of which, I can't wait for the Sex and the City movie. xxxx

Op Shopping and Indesign

I'm planning on going back to work part-time in a month or so (I work as a graphic artist at a newspaper). Before I go back I want to get really up to speed in Indesign. We've mainly just used Illustrator and Photoshop in the past - but now everyone is switching over. So I'll be practicing, which is why there may be lots of collages turning up on this blog.

Anyway - I've had a great week of Op shopping. Above is a couple of my favourite purchases. I'll give the Hello Kitty toy to my little friend Riki, and before I wear it the knitted vest needs to be taken in a bit. The t-shirt with the illustrations seems to be handmade. It's decorated with drawings of girls, as well as some cute text about the makers' favourite perfume, which is Oscar de la Renta.
