Quiet night in - which is actually the way I like it, especially when there's chaos outside. The Brazillian's downstairs are having a party, so no lack of festivities in the building. And we can hear the music from Bondi Beach. Hope everyone has a great start to 2008! xxxx
Not that I'm complaining, but a friend did have tickets to watch the fireworks at the best possible location on Sydney's harbour foreshore, but we would have had to wreck someone else's New Years Eve as it wouldn't be a very baby friendly environment. Anyway, I'm sure we'll have a lovely time watching the fireworks on television, and have an even lovelier time on New Years Day when everyone else is feeling sick and we're feeling fantastic!! I've been meaning for ages to post this amazing toy our friend Amanda made for us out of an old table-cloth. I just did a quick web search to get a link for her agent, and found that Cool Hunting has done a post about her informing us that Dutch magazine, Archive, has listed her amongst the world's best 200 illustrators. The naughty girl didn't tell me about this - I had to find out for myself! Below is a painting of hers and here's a link to more of her work. xxxx
Strange time of year. While everyone else is on holidays, those of us who work at newspapers still have to go to work. Even though I only work one day a week at the moment - it still doesn't feel much like a break cause Johnny is at work (he works for the opposition newspaper). Anyway, we watched a DVD last night - a doco about Hunter S Thompson, which led me to post this cool illustration Johnny did of him a while back. xxxx

I love these paintings by New Jersey artist Brett Wilson. He had a show in 2007 at Gallery Loyal in Stockholm, Sweden - a gallery I found via my favourite blog Fine Little Day. xxxx

I really love Timothy James Andrews's designs. He does brightly coloured striped and printed knitwear, as well as tie-dyed fabrics and digital printed t-shirts. I found the above image in the latest ID magazine.The scanner made a mistake, which caused the lines at the bottom, but I decided it suits the feel of his patterns so I left them there. The below images show his clothes too. The left image is from Pat McGrath's myspace page. She was the makeup-artist on the shoot. The bottom right image is from the telegraph.co.uk. xxxx

Via Aesthetic Outburst I've now discovered FFFFound, an image bookmarking site that allows you to post your favourite images, and look at the favourtie images of other people. Like on Amazon books, it lets you know that if you like this image "you may like these images". It was though a series of these clicks that I found these cool graphics. It also lists the original source. Originally the top-left image was found here and the top-right image was found here. When I followed the original links I found this great pic (below), by Takeshi Murata, where he's interviewed by Shift. Cool stuff! xxxx

My badge man has been holding out on me, but today I finally get new supplies so I can make another batch of badges. I'm doing them mainly for kids shops - so have been making animals and pets. I'll post another pic when they're mounted with backing pins. xxxx
I'm off to see the Sydney College of the Arts, Masters Graduate Show today, which is exciting because I'll get to see my friend Marisa's show. I've seen the paintings first hand, but have only seen these photographs (below) of the installation which looks amazing. To see more of her work check out this website. So many things in blog world keep pointing back to Sweden, it's amazing. This week's type images come from Stockholm-based design and typography talent Suprb. My favourite examples from the website are the 3D experiments (shown above), which you have to squint or enlarge to see properly. One is built up of particles in 3D space saying 'everyday forever', and the black works on the right spell out the company name 'Suprb'. I've read about them in two places recently, Lost at E Minor, and Cool Hunting. xxxx
I finally got around to making a Xmas card for this year (with a bit of pressure from my mother who has to post all her cards off soon). I wanted to do it in 3D, and still will if I find the time, but here's a flat one for now. The background was done in Painter. xxxx
I love the detailing on these John Galliano boots. And pink and red is one of my favourite colour combinations. The pics came from Style Drops.
I just finished reading an article in Miss Behave mag about Super Dollfies, the amazingly crafted, resin dolls made in Kyoto, that are rising to cult-like status amongst collectors in Japan, Korea and the US. They're about $1000 a pop, so not for children, which is probably a good thing considering most of them look so wistful they need antidepressants. Anyway, I want one! The left and right images in the middle row are from the Volks website where you can buy them. The rest are scanned from Miss Behave magazine (excuse the bad quality scans!). xxxx

Non-Format are a design-duo based in London who do some really slick looking design and art direction. Most of their standout work is typography based. The above images aren't detailed enough to do them justice (click to enlarge), so it's worth going to the website to see images of their best jobs. Be sure to look at the archive section too. xxxx
Two posts down I mention the beautiful shop David Met Nicole. It's where I got those cute 50's cars and trucks. Here's a couple of pictures of other stuff you can get at the store. There's a funny mix of really cheap and expensive stuff. The cars are $4.50, the watch faces are less than $10 and there's a sale bin with cute things for as low as a dollar. Perfect for work Xmas presents. All the images are from their website. For Sydney readers, it's on Cleveland Street Redfern. xxxx

Jean Tinguely is best known for his kinetic sculptures and paintings. He was married to Niki de Saint Phalle who I posted on last week. The above images came from the same book: Niki & Jean Posters. Jean Tinguely did some really nice, hand collaged posters that used lots of found objects and images (pre-Photoshop), so they look quite grungy. It's kind of Da Da inspired, which I love. xxxx
Type Tuesday will have to be postponed to either Type Wednesday or Type Thursday. Too busy finishing a fun little project that I'll post about when it's finished. I got my hands on a badge machine, and I'm covering a cute kids 80's or 90's faded, blue Levis jacket in badges and buttons. I started looking at punk jackets last night. Got this image from Oxbloodoi.com where there's lots of images of punk clothes. xxxx
