Chris Kerr
I just found this great image (I'm in love with the colours) by Chis Kerr on the bezembinder blog. It reminds me of the idea I had in mind for one of the images from my last show. I wanted it to be like an underground ant-farm community - but as you can see it ended up being an above ground image. It's fun to revisit the progress prints though. You can see more of Chris Kerr's work here, and the final images from mt last exhibition here. (Except you'll have to excuse the messy web page!) xxxx

3rd generation link
I found out about this book called Hand Job by Mike Perry from a great blog that I read called Fly, who in turn found out about it from the Urban Outfitters blog, which is also a really good read.
Anyway, back to Mike Perry's book - it's composed of witty hand-done (hence the name 'Hand Job') type and illustration. And his website is worth having a look at too. There's lots of fun projects, including the font (pictured below) called Alphabet Town.

Milla Jovovich
Ever since I saw The Fifth Element I've thought Milla Jovovich was really cool, so when a friend sent me a link to Jovovich-Hawk, the fashion label she has with partner Carmen Hawk, I got really excited and decided to have a mini Milla festival and got Resident Evil out on DVD. Apart from the martial arts sequences I hated the movie, so I drew her instead, collaged and surfed the net. Below are some images of the beautiful clothes I found on their website.

Wrapping paper in progress & Johnny's cute 3D image
I got a couple of steps closer to finishing the wrapping paper designs when I tiled them the other day. The 3D render took 40+ hours!! So until I'm completely happy with it I'll do the layout in Photoshop. If you click on the images - that's the size they'll be printed at.
Also, I had to post this character Johnny made for the paper today. He's so cute! For those of you who don't know him, he's an illustrator/cartoonist at the Herald. When he's not drawing by hand he uses the same 3D software as me - only he's much faster and cleverer than I am - and his renders never take two days!

Holiday in the storm
We were supposed to go up the coast for a quick holiday, but everything was booked out, so we checked into the Swiss Grand Hotel which is about 500m from our flat in Bondi. It turned out to be the best decision we could have made, because there was a huge storm and the worst hit area was the mid-north coast, where we were planning to stay. Instead we got to watch the wild surf from our local hotel room which was amazing.
I got a massage, and had to be escorted by conscierge to the roof gazebo because of the dangerous wind. It was beautiful sitting in the milk spa watching the storm and going back to my room completely blissed out. I was really lucky because the person who went in after me was evacuated mid-massage along with the staff because the wind blew tiles off the roof, and as a result the road was closed off by the police!
For local friends I can really recommend the massage and spa. Apparently they do great bargains. They said to keep an eye on the website to find out when. Oh - and the morning we left Johnny saw a whale down at the beach.

Stars and Moons - and Viktor & Rolf 2007
Grrr! - I've been sick for the last couple of days, but started to mock up another pattern in Cinema 4D. I think I'll try and set up the whole thing in Cinema this time, which will be tricky. I'll re-do the clouds pattern (previous post) in 3D space too. It basically means the background will be much less uniform and more interesting, but will be much more time consuming to make, and a larger file size.
Also I made a collage of Viktor & Rolf's 2007 collection featuring star motif's. I love it! Click the image to enlarge and see the detailing, or you can see the whole collection here. I'm going away for a couple of days. Johnny really needs a holiday. He took two weeks off work, and hasn't left the computer because of freelance jobs. So more pattern tweaking when I get back.
